Privacy Policy

Your Privacy, In Plain English

This policy explains what information BRITE CC handles on this website and in the BRITE CC iOS app, what stays on your own device, and the choices you have. Effective October 4, 2026.

Who we are

B.R.I.T.E. CC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that helps veterans and their families understand VA disability benefits and related support programs through education and guidance. You can reach us at:

BRITE CC is an education and guidance organization. We do not prepare, file, or submit claims for you — you file your claim with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and we help you understand the process and prepare.

The short version

  • Most of what you do in the app — your plans, saved conditions, and record analysis — stays on your device. We do not receive it.
  • The app’s Record Analyzer works entirely on your device. Medical files you select are not uploaded to BRITE CC.
  • In the current app build, the Community features run in an on-device demo mode with sample members. Community data is stored on your device, not sent to a live BRITE CC community server.
  • We do not sell personal information. The current website and app build contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking run by BRITE CC.

Information stored on your device (the app)

The BRITE CC app is designed so your working information stays with you. The following are stored locally on your device only:

  • Claim plans you create, including conditions you add, the rating tier you select, steps, notes, and evidence check-offs.
  • Settings and preferences, such as the pathway you chose on the Home screen.
  • Community demo-mode data: your local display profile, messages, communities you create, invites, and read/unread state from the built-in sample community.
  • Copies of reference data the app downloads for offline use (see “Information the app fetches,” below).

Because this information lives on your device, it is covered by your device’s own security (passcode, Face ID/Touch ID). Uninstalling the app deletes this locally stored app data from your device.

The Record Analyzer and your medical files

If you choose a medical record, letter, or other file for the app’s Record Analyzer, the file is opened and analyzed on your device (text is read using iOS technology on the phone itself). The file and its contents are not uploaded to BRITE CC, and we cannot see them. The analyzer shows you a starting-point comparison against the federal rating schedule — it is educational guidance, not a diagnosis, medical advice, or a promise of any VA rating. VA makes all rating decisions.

Information you choose to send us

Some features let you reach our team directly. What you send is then handled by the service you used:

  • Email: “Message Us” in the app and the contact form on this website open your own email app addressed to b.r.i.t.e.cc1@gmail.com. The message is delivered through your email provider and ours (Google Gmail), under those providers’ policies. Please avoid sending sensitive medical documents by email unless we specifically ask you to.
  • Phone: Tapping our phone number or the Veterans Crisis Line (988, then Press 1) uses your phone carrier as with any call.
  • Booking: Session booking runs on our booking service on Wix (you’ll see the booking pages open on our Wix address after a redirect). Information you enter to book — such as your name, contact details, and session choice — is processed by Wix under its privacy policy so we can schedule and contact you about your session.

Information the app and website fetch

To keep content current, the app and website make ordinary internet requests, for example:

  • VA news headlines from the VA’s public news feed (news.va.gov).
  • Updated reference files (ratings schedule, forms catalog, and similar datasets) hosted on our own website at brite-cc.org/app-data/.
  • Official VA forms and pages when you tap a link to VA.gov or another official source.

As with any website or app, the operator of the service being contacted (for example VA.gov, Wix, or your email provider) receives ordinary network information needed to answer the request — such as your IP address, device/browser type, and time of request — under that operator’s own privacy policy. Links that open outside our app or website are governed by the privacy policies of the sites they lead to.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for third-party marketing.
  • The current website and app build includes no advertising and no third-party analytics or cross-app/website tracking operated by BRITE CC.
  • The app does not ask for or collect your location, your contacts, or advertising identifiers.

If live community accounts are enabled later

The Community tab in this build runs in demo mode on your device. If we enable live accounts and member-to-member community services in a future update, those features will need basic account information (such as a sign-in email and a display name) and the messages you post, and we will: (1) update this policy before or when those services launch, (2) describe the information involved, and (3) offer account deletion within the app where applicable. Posts in any future live community should never include claim numbers, Social Security numbers, or medical record images.

Your choices

  • You can use the app’s rating lookup, Claim Guide, forms, plans, and guides without creating any account.
  • You can delete individual plans and app data inside the app, and uninstalling the app removes its locally stored data from your device.
  • You can contact us to ask what information, if any, we hold about you from email or booking correspondence, and to ask us to delete that correspondence, using the contact details above.

Children

Our website and app are intended for veterans, service members, and their adult family members. They are not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle information — for example, when live community accounts launch — we will post the updated policy on this page and update its effective date. Material changes will be highlighted in the app or on this page so you can review them.
